May is Mental Health Month, and it’s important to prioritize our mental well-being just as much as our physical health. As a health and wellness professional, I’m always looking for ways to support and nourish the mind and body. Recently, I came across an interesting article on Psychology Today about the benefits of coaching and traditional therapy. This research highlights the importance of seeking out different forms of support to help manage our mental health.
One way to promote better brain health is through nutrition. Food is not just fuel for our bodies, it’s also fuel for our brains. Studies have shown that a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can improve cognitive function and reduce the risk of mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.
To help support brain health, I’m sharing a delicious recipe that’s easy to make and packed with brain-boosting nutrients. This recipe is a simple and tasty way to incorporate more brain-healthy foods into your diet.
Blueberry Oatmeal Breakfast Bowl
Ingredients:
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/2 cup blueberries
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Instructions:
- In a small pot, combine the rolled oats and almond milk. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low. Stir occasionally until the oats are cooked to your desired consistency.
- While the oats are cooking, combine the blueberries, chia seeds, honey, and cinnamon in a separate bowl.
- Once the oats are cooked, transfer them to a bowl and top with the blueberry mixture.
Blueberries are rich in antioxidants that protect the brain from oxidative stress, while chia seeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids that support brain function. Oats provide a good source of fiber and help regulate blood sugar levels, which can impact mood and cognitive function.
In honor of Mental Health Month, I encourage you to prioritize your mental well-being by seeking out different forms of support, whether it’s through coaching, therapy, or making changes to your nutrition and lifestyle. Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health, and small changes to your daily routine can make a big difference in how you feel.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy this delicious and nutritious recipe!
